When it comes to choosing a new flooring system for government, industrial, commercial, residential, garage, or any other outdoor surface, epoxy resin flooring truly stands out from other options for several reasons. Also known as resinous flooring, epoxy flooring is highly durable, sustainable, and amazingly decorative for any surface. What appeals most to our customers about epoxy flooring is it’s resistance to high levels of wear and tear, making it the longest-lasting flooring options around!
The most straightforward definition suggests a flooring surface comprised of multiple layers of epoxy that is applied to a floor with a minimum depth of two millimeters. Confusion typically arises when comparing an epoxy floor and an epoxy floor coating. The difference between the two is determined by the depth of the epoxy. Epoxy floors are classified as an epoxy coating that is at least two millimeters thick. Any epoxy floor less than two millimeters thick is commonly referred to as an epoxy floor coating.

Epoxy is a two part system by which a liquid resin and hardener are mixed together and applied as a dense fluid. The covalent bond between the epoxide groups of the epoxy resin (Part A) and the amine groups of the hardener (Part B) create the cross-linkage of the polymer. Once fully cured, the result is a shiny, strong and very durable material. 'Curing' is a chemical process in which the material hardens (6-8 hours) after exposure to air, heat, or chemical additives.
Besides being aesthetically pleasing, the hardened and thick application that you get from epoxy chips or flakes creates a coating that is very durable and resilient to impact, chipping, chemicals, stains and most surface abrasion. It's an ideal system for garages, auto showrooms, locker rooms, parking structures and all medium to high traffic areas. Epoxy chips or flakes come in a variety of colors and can be finished with clear topcoats ranging from gloss to matte.
From the simple elegance of a grind and seal, to the unfathomable beauty of polished concrete, the story of any cement floor is preserved in the slab. These types of systems can be very affordable, (Grind&Seal), or more expensive (Polished Concrete), but they are both very durable and organic looking floors that give any home, business, or commercial space an attractive, understated appeal and long lasting value.
